02.02.2017: Two best paper awards for Faist group at SPIE Photonics West

Two members of the Faist group won Best paper awards at this year's Photonics West. Congratulations to Janine Keller (best paper in "Ultrafast Phenomena and Nanophotonics XXI" ) and Cristina Benea Chelmus (best paper in "Terahertz, RF, Millimeter, and Submillimeter-Wave Technology and Applications X")!

30.01.2017: Faist group Spin-off IRsweep releases first commercial mid-IR frequency comb spectrometer

The ETH Spin-off company IRsweep released the first commercial mid-IR spectrometer at at SPIE BiOS/Photonics West. You can find more about the instrument at the company homepage.

20.01.2017: ETH medal for Gustavo Villares

Congratulations to Gustavo Villares, who received the ETH medal for this Ph.D. thesis on QCL combs for spectroscopy applications. The medal is awarded by the rector of ETH for outstanding theses.

19.12.2016: Giacomo Scalari receives ERC consolidator grant

Giacomo Scalari will use his ERC Consolidator Grant to create on-chip, self-referenced frequency combs operating in the THz spectral range, where there is currently no compact comb source available. These devices will be appealing for metrology and material inspection, non-invasive imaging for medical applications, and wireless communication. Giacomo is one of three recipients of an ERC consolidator grant at ETH.

03.10.2016: Article published in OPTICA

New results about "Short pulse generation and mode control of broadband terahertz quantum cascade lasers" were published in OPTICA in collaboration with TU Vienna. Read all the details in the full text article.

30.06.2016: Conference paper price at "New Terahertz Sources and Emerging Applications"

The award of the "Rank Prize Funds" at the symposium "New Teraherrtz Sources and Emerging Applications" for "Best short paper" was awarded to Faist group Ph.D. student Markus Rösch. The symposium took place 13.06-16.06 in Grasmere, UK.

01.06.2016: Recent work on THz QCL combs highlighted in Nature Photonics

The recent Faist group publication Appl. Phys Lett. 108, 171104 (2016) got highlighted by Nature Photonics: "Now, Markus Rösch and colleagues from ETH Zurich have developed an on-chip THz dual-comb set-up that does not require a fast detector. Two THz QCLs were processed next to each other by dry-etching techniques on the same chip and connected individually to two current sources."
